The Extras
These are extra items you can get for your guitar. If you are just starting
out you may want to wait on some of these.
- Electric Tuner
- Although this is not an essential I highly recommend it. When you change
your strings while they are stretching you may have to tune your guitar several
times. If you are playing with more than one guitar you can make sure they
are both tuned exactly the same. If you like to play rock and alternative
music a lot of people drop tunig and it makes it really easy. Two years ago
I bought my Quick Tune chromatic tuner for 30$. They may be cheaper now. It
tunes electric(you plug the guitar into the tuner) acoustic(by a mike) and also
does bass guitars. There are nicer ones, but Quick Tune gets the job done for
me.
- Distortion pedal
- The distortion pedal connects between the guitar and the amp. It takes
the same kind of cord used to plug the guitar directly into the amp, so an
extra cord is needed. They are fun, but if you are just learning you should
really concentrate on getting the basics down. And unlike many other guitar
accessories, they have not come down in price. I have a Danelectro distortion
pedal. The actual unit I have is the Fab Tone pedal. One advantage of the Danelectro
pedals are they are medal. When you are stomping up and down on a pedal(you turn
them on with your foot) you want them to last. Roland has some
good pedals also. Distortion pedals do just that, distort the sound. They are a lot of fun.
Note: Make sure if you want your pedal to last, you don't get a plastic one.

More to come, I am trying to get this page up as quickly as possible, and I hope
to expand later.
